Following his graduation, he initially worked as a product manager at a pharmaceutical company, gaining experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Later, he transitioned to clinical practice as a polyclinic physician in a public institution, where he provided medical services for several years. In 1995, he joined Istanbul University’s Institute of Experimental Medicine, Department of Immunology as a Research Assistant. During his tenure, he pursued a Ph.D. in Immunology within the framework of the Health Sciences Institute Doctoral programs. His research has focused on immunological mechanisms, transplantation immunology, and cellular therapy, with a particular interest in diabetes-related immunological applications. Dr. Gürol played a pivotal role as the Istanbul University coordinator in a TÜBİTAK INTEN-C project in collaboration with the University of Giessen, Germany. This project aimed to explore advanced immunological applications and innovative therapeutic strategies. His contributions to this research further reinforced his expertise in immunology and experimental medicine. One of Dr. Gürol’s most notable achievements is being a member of the first team in Turkey to successfully isolate Langerhans islets from the human pancreas. This groundbreaking work has laid the foundation for tissue transplantation in diabetic patients, with the goal of developing novel treatments for diabetes management. His research and dedication in this field have been instrumental in advancing transplantation immunology in Turkey.
