Prof. Dr. Asiye Nuhoğlu is a distinguished pediatrician and neonatologist with over four decades of experience in child health and neonatology. She has made significant contributions to medical education, neonatology advancements, and public health awareness throughout her career. Dr. Nuhoğlu completed her medical education at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1971. She specialized in Pediatrics at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine between 1972 and 1976, earning her pediatrician title. From 1978 to 1990, she played a key role in the establishment of Karadeniz University Faculty of Medicine under the leadership of Hacettepe University.Dr. Nuhoğlu became an Associate Professor in Pediatrics in 1983 and was promoted to Professor in 1989. In 1991, she became one of Turkey’s first neonatologists, pioneering newborn care practices. She served as the Head of the Pediatrics Clinic at Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital in 1992 and established the Neonatal and Social Pediatrics Unit within the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics in 1993, focusing on the long-term follow-up of newborns. Her dedication to children’s health extended beyond clinical practice. In 1999, she served as the General Chair of Health and Child Welfare at the 1st International Child Congress held in Turkey, bringing together experts from various countries. In 2002, she was instrumental in obtaining the official recognition of Neonatology as a subspecialty by the Turkish Ministry of Health, marking a milestone in neonatal medicine in Turkey. From that point until her retirement in 2003, she trained many neonatologists who later became associate professors and leading academics in the field.Throughout her 41-year-long academic and clinical career, Prof. Dr. Nuhoğlu trained countless pediatricians and neonatologists, contributing to the development of Turkey’s medical expertise. She has published over 150 scientific papers both nationally and internationally and has authored numerous books and guides for healthcare professionals and parents. Beyond academia, she was actively involved in health-related television programs, both as a guest and as a program coordinator. She also played key roles in numerous foundations and associations, serving as a founding member and board member of multiple organizations.
